Mayor Adam Azim.
There is no agreement to be indicate that the Heenaamaage land plot in Male' was handed over to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Pvt Ltd (RCC), Male' Mayor Adam Azim has said.
Appearing on Adhadhu's Etherefuh show, Azim said the list of land allocated by the Male' City Council does not include Heenaamaage because there was no record of an agreement with RCC.
But the 8000 square feet land plot was leased to RCC for a long-term for the construction of a parking building and other commercial uses when President Mohamed Muizzu was Male' Mayor.
"The council doesn't have it [a handover agreement with the RCC]. We have published everything the council has," Azim claimed.
He added that the RCC did not approach the city council claiming its control over the Heenaamaage land plot.
The city council has now decided not to accept any agreement that is not in the council records in the future, Azim stated.
"So now, if any party comes to us with a contract, they have to go to the court to confirm its legality," he said.
Azim, who is one of the shareholders of RCC, said the 70-year-old company was his father's hard work. He claimed that the company has not come this far because he and Maldives National Party (MNP) leader MP Mohamed Nazim is affiliated with the Muizzu administration.
He condemned people who try to undermine his parents' hard work for political purposes.
RCC, which is closely associated with the government, is carrying out many projects. These include the MVR 631 million project awarded without a bidding process to construct council buildings in 55 islands. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the matter.
