Ooredoo Maldives Chief Commercial Officer Hussain Niyaz has said that fintech will bring economic growth to the entire country.

At a panel discussion on “Rethinking Economic Growth Beyond Tourism” organised by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Niyaz said digital finance is one of the most important tools that can be used to create equal opportunities in a country like the Maldives.

He said the integration of M-Faisaa and PayPal in the near future will open up global markets, income generation and new opportunities for freelancers, artists and small businesses in every island.

He added that the challenges facing the country include high infrastructure development costs, digital skills gaps and fragmentation of digital systems.

“This cannot be achieved by a single party alone. A strong partnership with the private sector is essential to provide innovative opportunities to every island in the Maldives," Niyaz stated.

He stressed that digital finance is one of the most powerful tools in emerging countries like the Maldives.
