The Elections Commission (EC) has decided to restore the Maldives Labor and Social Democratic Party (MLSP) to the register of political parties after a court ruled that the commission's decision to dissolve the party was unlawful.

The EC decided in March 2022 to dissolve the party because it had fewer than 3,000 members. But the Civil Court ruled on September 30 that the decision was unlawful.

Following the court ruling, the EC decided on Thursday to restore the Labor Party's status. The party has now been officially informed of the commission's decision.

In a post on X, the Labor Party called on individuals to join the "left-wing moderate [centre left] political ideology."

The Labor Party was registered on January 20, 2019. The party was led by prominent lawyer Abdulla Haseen.
