Aminath Naushan Abdul Muhaimin has resigned as the Secretary General of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

Adhadhu understands that she resigned last week after giving one month's notice in accordance with the regulations.

Naushan told Adhadhu she resigned due to personal reasons.

Before being appointed as the Secretary General in 2022, Naushan was the Director of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) in the HRCM.

Her resignation comes amid rising public concern over the commission's conduct of investigations and failure to address the worsening rights situation in the country.
