Male' Maldives: Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM) has scheduled new elections for November 1, following the adoption of revised Fundamental Rules of Elections in the Maldives, in a move aimed at lifting its suspension by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
On April 30, Sports Commissioner Mohamed Tholal (Thola) formed a three-member ad hoc committee to revoke BAM's national status and address ongoing issues within the association.
Over a year has passed since the last elections, but the association’s rules had not been updated.
The BWF suspended the Maldives on May 16 after the ad hoc committee failed to begin operations. Unsatisfied with the committee’s progress, the BWF worked with a joint working group including the Olympic Committee, the BWF, and BAM’s previous leadership to find a solution.
After deliberations, the working group decided to hold a special meeting in the first or second week of next month to approve the new rules, paving the way for BAM’s elections on November 1.
