The government has spent MVR 488.8 million on the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry network launched by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
In response to a Right to Information (RTI) request, the Transport Ministry said MVR 488.8 million had been spent from February 2022 to August 26, 2025.
The government earned a revenue of MVR 105.6 million during this period.
The RTL service was launched with government subsidy to reduce transportation costs in the atolls and increase social and business benefits for the people.
In August 2023, Solih said that the revolutionary service had eased the pockets of individuals by 87 percent.
"It means that the money will be used for other things. The government is providing assistance. We are providing affordable, convenient and easy options," he said in Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo during the presidential election campaign.
The RTL service was available in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaal, Shaviyani, Lhaviyani, Gaaf Alif, Gaaf Dhaal, Gnaviyani and Seenu atolls when his government ended.
The new government of President Mohamed Muizzu began the service in Noonu, Raa and Baa atolls.
The Transport Ministry said the service will next be launched in Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa and Laamu atolls.
