Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed’s son has decided to resign from the Presidential Youth Advisory Board after he was caught attempting to smuggle vape-related products into the country.

Abdulla Maahil Shaheem was stopped by customs at Velana International Airport (VIA) when he returned to the Maldives.

A credible source confirmed to Adhadhu that Maahil is expected to resign from the board today. But President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed could not be reached for comment.

Adhadhu understands that the contraband was found in his luggage and body. A large number of items were also taped to his body.

When questioned, customs media officials said they would look into the matter. But the authority has, so far, failed to make any announcement.

A source confirmed that more than 100 vape-related products were found after Maahil was stopped, and a fine of MVR 1 million was imposed on him.
