President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed his condolences to the President of the United States of America Donald J. Trump in the wake of the catastrophic floods.
According to international media reports, the floods have impacted parts of central Texas, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread devastation.
In his message, Muizzu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies on behalf of the government and people of the Maldives.
He further expressed his sincere hope for the success of the ongoing rescue and relief efforts and for the swift recovery of the impacted communities.
According to CNN, 67 people, including 21 children, have so far died as a result of the floods.
The current administration maintains close ties with the United States. More than 30 meetings have taken place with ÚS officials since November 2023.
The US government has also decided to give three military patrol vessels and one military plane to the Maldives government, in addition to aid worth USD 12 million.
