President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the Maldives will welcome investors from anywhere in the world.

He said this in a post on X announcing the decision to designate certain islands for halal tourism and give special concessions to investors.

"Maldives remains investment ready, and ready to welcome investors from across the globe," he announced on Friday.

Recently, the government has faced criticism for failing to attract significant investments and stalling ongoing projects.

The stalled projects include Thinadhoo airport and the financial centre in Hulhumale' to be built by MBS Global Investments, a company owned by Sheikh Nayef bin Eid Al Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family.

There are also concerns that the government's investment forums held overseas have not produced favourable results. The government is planning to hold an investor forum in Singapore in July.

Muizzu said the designated islands and concessions under the Halal Tourism Plan will be announced next week.
