President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has asked Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry to resign from his post and retire from the Maldives Police Service, sources have confirmed.
According to three separate sources who spoke to Adhadhu, the request was conveyed a few days ago by Ali Arif, Minister at the President’s Office, acting on behalf of President Muizzu.
When contacted, President’s Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed said they were "not aware of the details" of the matter.
Farhad did not respond to multiple calls and text messages from Adhadhu seeking comment.
Sources suggest that the resignation request stems from Farhad's conduct in a matter involving the his own personal interests. The incident reportedly took place during the tenure of former Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau.
After Shujau resigned, Farhad was briefly appointed as acting commissioner, but the decision was reversed within an hour by the Home Minister, who then assigned the role to Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen on an interim basis.
Following the vacancy, Farhad submitted an application for the post of police commissioner. However, the president appointed Ismail Naveen to the position instead.
Farhad has previously faced allegations of tampering with evidence in a rape case involving his son.
