Adhadhu has learnt that the Managing Director of Public Service Media (PSM), Ibrahim Nasreen, takes his salary and resides in Malaysia after handing over his responsibilities to the Deputy Managing Director.

A reliable source told Adhadhu that Nasreen is currently studying for his PhD in Malaysia. PSM Deputy Managing Director Yameen Rasheed is officially tasked with the management of the company.

"He lives in Malaysia, studying for his PhD but receives pay. But all the formalities have been finalised and the management of the company has been handed over to the DMD," the source said.

The source added that Nasreen moved to Malaysia a few months after being appointed as the Managing Director of the state broadcaster.

"He moved there a few months later. He still visits the Maldives from time to time and stays here for two, three days," the source stated.

Nasreen was appointed as the Managing Director of PSM after the resignation of former Managing Director Mohamed Saeed on December 17, 2024. Nasreen is the PSM's third Managing Director appointed since the current government came to power in November 2023.

Zeena Zahir was first appointed as the Managing Director of PSM. But she resigned in August 2024 amid pressure following instructions from the government to bring changes to the company's management.

Following Zeena's resignation, Saeed was appointed as the second Managing Director of PSM. Both Zeena and Saeed were involved in personal matters that had a conflict of interest when they were in PSM.

Zeena was operating her own news website, Xee Times, while Saeed served as the General Secretary of the Volleyball Association. Both of them faced public criticism.

The Code of Corporate Governance for State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), which is set by the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB), states that the managing director of an SOE is responsible for ensuring that all day-to-day operations are in order to meet the financial and operational goals set by the company.

The Managing Director is also the chief spokesperson for the company in all day-to-day operations.
