The Maldives Broadcasting Commission has ordered Raajje TV to respond regarding its live broadcast of a protest by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) during Ramadan.
The protest took place on March 9. According to Broadcom, "verbal language and gestures that do not meet social standards" were used in the demonstration.
Raajje TV is also accused of broadcasting words, scenes and sounds that may defame a person or persons.
Broadcom is also investigating Raajje TV for broadcasting an MDP protest during which an activist spoke about the son of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. A third investigation is ongoing into a song broadcast on Raajje TV.
The commission is investigating the song, which was broadcast on Raajje TV in January, saying it was news content and did not meet the standards for news coverage.
The current members of Broadcom are Safa Shafeeq (President), Mohamed Abdulla, Aminath Ameena, Aminath Sarahath Izzath, Aminath Nuzuha, Shifla Ibrahim and Moosa Rilwan.
