President's Office Under Secretary for Strategic Communications Izdhiyan Mohamed Maumoon has been fired a week after he allegedly partied with a woman who fell from the ninth floor of a building in Male'.
According to the police, 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu fell from a ninth-floor window in the stairwell of Henveiru Fentenoy house. Yumnu and eight others had attended a drug-fueled party at another house before that same night.
In a post on X, President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed announced Izdhiyan's dismissal. But she did not disclose a reason.
Police earlier said that the group had partied in a house in the central area of Male' before Yumnu and Raudh Ahmed Zilal went to Fentenoy house at dawn.
Adhadhu understands that the party took place at Mahchangolhi Maandhooge Dhekunuge house. The house belongs to Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen and two of his siblings. Ameen is Izdhiyan's uncle.
Police claimed Yumnu was accompanied by only one person at the time of the incident, but initially declined to reveal the 21-year-old man's identity.
The man, identified as Raudh, left the scene after Yumnu fell and did not report to the authorities. She was discovered on a roof nearly three hours later and remains in critical condition.
Police did not arrest the man for leaving the scene and even after he tested positive for cannabis on the following day.
On Wednesday night, young people gathered near a police building in Male' and demanded justice and a fair investigation.
