Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Azaan has requested an inquiry into the police response following the suspicious fall of a woman on April 18.
In a post on X, the ruling party lawmaker said he had submitted the request to People's Majlis Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
"Transparency and justice must be ensured without delay or bias," he wrote.
His letter stated that the police response in this case was different from other similar cases and this has caused public concern and anger.
"Since this is a sensitive matter that concerns the citizen, especially the youth, it is important to ensure that the police act impartially and fairly and in accordance with the law," it added.
"Therefore, I request the Security Services Committee to conduct an inquiry into the actions taken by the Maldives Police Service since it received the report."
According to the police, 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu fell from a ninth-floor window in the stairwell of Henveiru Fentenoy house.
Police claimed she was accompanied by only one person at the time of the incident, but declined to reveal the 21-year-old man's identity.
The man left the scene after Yumnu fell and did not report to the authorities. She was discovered on a roof nearly three hours later and remains in critical condition.
Police did not arrest the man for leaving the scene and even after he tested positive for cannabis on the following day.
