Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan has said this government will not frame anyone after former Immigration Controller Shamaan Waheed's wife alleged he had been arrested after framing.

Appearing in the People's Majlis on Wednesday, Ihusaan said he wants to assure Shamaan's family that the government would not frame anyone.

"I can assure you that this government will not frame anyone. I can assure the family that no one will be framed in the case under investigation. They will get all the protection of the law and they will have to face justice," he stated.

Ihusaan said the police would begin investigating when there is a criminal complaint against anyone and that the police would investigate the case using all the powers and authority available to them.

"Today's government is not going to discriminate against anyone when it comes to law enforcement... We don't care what status or position he holds. The law does not consider the person's position," he added.

Former Immigration Controller Shamaan's wife Hidhfa Faiz earlier wrote in a post on social media that her husband was framed and arrested on criminal charges.

Hidhfa said her husband had been arrested "unjustly and framed." She did not comment further on the matter and did not give details.

Shamaan was detained on March 22 for allegedly releasing a detained foreigner and extorting MVR 530,000 from him.
