The Whistleblower Protection Unit has ruled that an employee at the Maldives Post Service was fired in retaliation after he flagged corruption
Adhadhu has learnt that the investigation found the employee was discriminated from the moment he was accused of whistleblowing and steps were taken to find a way to dismiss him.
Maldives Post Service was ordered on January 21 not to take action against the whistleblower and any other employees involved in the case, but the authority defied the order and dismissed him on January 23.
The Whistleblower Protection Unit fined the Maldives Post Service MVR 900,000 for firing the employee and ordered him to be reinstated. But the authority has not complied with the order.
The Whistleblower Protection Unit, which came into existence six years ago in 2019, has the power to impose fines not exceeding MVR 1 million for non-compliance with an order.
