The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested to press charges against the former bosses of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for allegedly handing over a housing project to benefit a specific company.
MTCC's housing project included two 15-storey towers. The project was awarded to a foreign company. ACC said the project was awarded by giving points to the company in violation of the evaluation criteria.
ACC is seeking the prosecution of five people in the case: former CEO Hassan Shah, former GM Shifau Ali and tender evaluation committee members Hussain Zuhry, Mohamed Nazim and Ismail Adam.
The anti-corruption watchdog said the company had violated the terms of the agreements on multiple occasions, but the contract was not cancelled and money was provided for different purposes.
The ACC has also asked MTCC to recover the lost MVR 39 million from the project.
MTCC announced the construction of the flats in December 2017. The project operations began in December 2018. However, the agreement was later cancelled due to the slow speed. Only the foundation work was carried out at the time, but the work had cost MVR 20 million.
