The government is seeking investors to develop two resorts in the lagoon of Haa Alif Kelaa island.
In an announcement, the Tourism Ministry said the resorts will be developed by reclaiming two 12.9 hectare islands in the lagoon.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided on March 29 to remove an area of 325.5 hectares from Kelaa's jurisdiction.
The Tourism Ministry has fixed the value of 169.3 hectares for the first resort at USD 2,032,110 while the value for the second resort is USD 1,996,740 for an area of 156.2 hectares.
The deadline for submission of bids is 1:00 pm June 5. The winners will be determined based on the points awarded after evaluating the proposals.
The ministry will evaluate the bid price, environmental concerns, social development and CSR when selecting the investors.
President Muizzu pledged to develop a tourism facility in Kelaa lagoon during the presidential election in 2023.
