President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the Thalassemia Centre in Male' after patients and families protested on Saturday night.

An official from the President's Office told Adhadhu that Muizzu visited the centre and met with the staff to assess the situation.

However, the President's Office did not disclose any details.

Thalassemia patients and their families met with senior officials of the centre to resolve issues, but the meeting, with demands for resignations, ended without any progress.

The issue escalated after a large number of blood bags were thrown away due to low-quality filters used in the process of collecting blood from donors. There are also concerns over medicine shortage.
