JSC members ethics complaint submitted to Majlis

A petition against the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has been submitted to the People's Majlis with allegations that the JSC suspended three Supreme Court justices by abusing the powers vested in them by the law.

The petition was submitted by suspended Supreme Court justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir on Sunday. She alleged that the JSC members had violated the code of ethics under Article 17 of the JSC Act.

Although there was no official statement on behalf of Azmiralda, some members of the Judiciary Committee confirmed that the matter had been submitted.

Adhadhu has obtained her letter sent to the parliament secretariat.

It states that the properly functioning Supreme Court was halted under the JSC initiative and that thee three judges were suspended in violation of procedures.

Points highlighted in the petition:

  • JSC members have obstructed the right of to seek legal assistance during disciplinary hearings of judges
  • JSC members are trying to achieve a certain result by investigating the case unjustly
  • JSC members are investigating incidents that occurred many years ago with the aim of harassing judges
  • JSC members are acting unfairly
  • JSC members decided to conduct closed-door hearings

Azmiralda alleged that the JSC intends to dismiss the judges or tarnish their records. She requested the Judiciary Committee to investigate the ethical concerns surrounding the JSC members.

The parliament did not comment on the matter.
