The government has failed to invited tenders for the technical works of the bridge to connect Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu before the end of February.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu previously announced that the tender process for survey, engineering design and technical work will be initiated in February.

"The government will announce to find contractors within this month to conduct a detailed survey, engineering design and technical work to expedite the construction of the Addu Bridge," Muizzu said in his presidential address on February 6.

However, Egypt's Arab Contractors Group was awarded the contract on February 19 last year to conduct the surveys required for the Addu Bridge.

MVR 30 million was also allocated from last year's state budget for the survey.

But the government has not disclosed any updates of the work awarded to Egypt's Arab Contractors Group.

The government has also not yet announced why the tender process was not initiated by the deadline of February given in the presidential address.

All matters related to the project are overseen by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
