President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed condolences following the passing of former US President Jimmy Carter.

In a post on X, Muizzu extended condolences on behalf of the government and the people of Maldives.

The longest-lived American president died on Sunday at the age of 100, roughly 22 months after entering hospice care, at his home in the small town of Plains, Georgia.

"Our founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia,” the Carter Center said on X.

US President Joe Biden mourned Carter’s death, saying the world lost an "extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian."
