A police officer is being investigated for involvement in a collision between a motorcycle and a police vehicle in Hulhumale’ last night.

According to police, an investigation is underway to determine whether the officer driving the police vehicle was at fault in the accident, which occurred at 1:50 am.

The 18-year-old motorcyclist is currently on a ventilator at IGMH. Police stated that his license had been retained on December 21.

"The Maldives Police Service is deeply concerned and regrets the occurrence of such dangerous accidents. We are working diligently to prevent similar incidents and ensure road safety," the police said in a statement.

The collision occurred when a police vehicle crossing Gul’alaa Magu from east to west in Phase 2, Hulhumale’, collided with a motorcycle traveling at high speed from north to south on Nirolhu Magu.

The police have assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to prevent such dangerous accidents in the future.
