President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has begun a tour of three islands in Alif Alif atoll and Kaafu atoll.
A government official confirmed that Muizzu would visit Thoddoo, Rasdhoo and Mathiveri on Sunday.
His tour comes as the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) called on people in the islands to attend a rally in Male' on Tuesday.
People from Kaafu atoll and Alif Alif atoll usually come to Male' to attend major political rallies.
President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed said the President was continuing a tour of the islands he commenced earlier in the year.
“He has not yet visited some islands in Male' atoll and Ari atoll. So he said he will visit soon," she said in a message to Adhadhu.
Adhadhu understands that Muizzu will end his Ari atoll tour on Sunday and visit Kaafu Gaafaru island on Monday morning.
He arrived in Thoddoo on a Maldivian seaplane.
The President's tour comes at a time of financial struggles and amid concern over suspending development projects in the islands.
