President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has thanked Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin for the services during her tenure.
Lixin paid a farewell call on Muizzu on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Muizzu extended his greetings and best wishes and highlighted China’s role in aiding developmental projects for various sectors of the Maldives.
Lixin expressed her gratitude to the President and the Maldivian government for the unwavering support provided during her tenure.
She commended the government's resilience, remarkable achievements and positive development throughout the year.
She also emphasised that the partnership between the two nations is founded on mutual respect and shared interests.
The meeting included discussions on the progress of ongoing projects initiated by China and explored potential areas for further collaboration.
The call concluded with the President and the Ambassador reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the relationship between Maldives and China.
Earlier, Lixin paid courtesy calls on Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel.
Lixin presented her credentials of appointment to former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on September 6, 2021.
She was appointed with the authority to make diplomatic decisions without consulting the main Chinese government.
Lixin worked hard to achieve China's goals despite the former Maldives government's close relations with rival India.
China has not yet announced a replacement for Lixin.
Meanwhile, India is also working to replace its ambassador to Maldives with G Balasubramanian named as the incoming High Commissioner.
