A police officer has been arrested for threatening to leak nude photos and videos of his partner on social media.

Police said Zaidhan Mohamed, 19, a recruit police officer in Alif Alif Mathiveri police station was arrested over the incident.

"He is accused of threatening and blackmailing his partner that her nude photos and videos will be leaked on social media," police told the media.

He was arrested on Wednesday with a court order. Alif Alif Mathiveri Magistrate Court remanded him in custody for three days.

Police did not provide any additional information, but said further investigations were underway.
