A young Singaporean tourist died on Friday after she was hit by a boat propeller while snorkelling near Alif Dhaal Dhigurah island.

Residents of the island told Adhadhu that she had sustained serious injuries which caused a lot of bleeding.

Police identified the tourist as a 15-year-old Singaporean girl visiting the Maldives on a study tour.

According to the police, she hit the boat propeller when she jumped into the sea for snorkelling. The incident was reported at 9:55 am.

Police said that officials from the island health center pronounced her dead upon arrival and that further investigations were underway.
