Indian Ambassador Munu Mahawar, accompanied by Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, visited Laamu Gaadhoo on Thursday.

The Maldives government has agreed with both China and India to carry out projects in Gaadhoo. An agreement was signed with China CMC Engineering Company on April 11. Several agreements were also signed with the Indian government to implement projects in Gaadhoo on October 7.

Minister Faisal said he and the Indian Ambassador visited sites where tourism could be developed in Gaadhoo.

The government agreed with China’s CMC Engineering to build a cruise terminal, a yacht marina, off-shore bunkering services and an eco-resort.

The government also reached an agreement with India to build a transhipment facility and provide banking services.

With India, too, the government agreed to build a transhipment facility and find ways to begin bunkering services.

The agreements with India were signed during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to India in October.

While the Maldives has agreed with two countries to implement projects in Gaadhoo, only one country can likely proceed. It is now believed that India is more likely to carry out the projects in Gaadhoo.
