The Prosecutor General's (PG) Office has announced a 20-day period to file complaints related to the office.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, PG Abbas Shareef said many people had contacted him regarding complaints since his appointment to the post.

"In my three-week experience, a lot of people have been submitting a lot of complaints to me in different ways. There are complaints from SMS and phone calls, so I decided to formalize all those complaints as well as any other complaints," he said.

Abbas noted that complaints include matters related to charges and courts and that the PG office would offer clarifications if a decision is changed after reviewing complaints.

At the press briefing, Abbas also said, in response to a question from a journalist, that he does not remember working as a personal lawyer for former President Abdulla Yameen.

Abbas claimed he had worked with Yameen as a political party lawyer.

"I will look at the records [to see if I had gone to court as Yameen's lawyer]. If I had gone to court, I would have to recuse myself. In that case, I will do so," he said.
