The newly appointed Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel on Tuesday met with Indian Ambassador Munu Mahawar.

This is the first official meeting of the new Foreign Minister who previously served as the Health Minister of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's Cabinet.

In a post on X, Khaleel said discussions focused on ongoing cooperation and exploring potential new avenues.

The Foreign Ministry said Khaleel and Mahawar exchanged views on "strengthening the existing strong bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest."

Meanwhile, the government has announced that President Muizzu will visit India "very soon."

According to international media reports, President Muizzu plans to discuss financial assistance during his first official visit to the neighbouring country.

After insulting India at the beginning of his administration, President Muizzu is now trying to mend relations with India and seek financial help.
