The Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM) received MVR 938,050 from the Sports Ministry as the salary for 10 for South Korean coach Jang Ki-young who was hired for the national badminton team.

Adhadhu Sports sought information from the Sports Ministry to find out the salary paid to badminton coach Ki-young.

According to the details provided by the ministry, MVR 938,050, which is the salary for 10 months, was issued to the Badminton Association.

"The specific details of months and years cannot be given as the money was paid in bulk," the ministry said.

The salary of MVR 938,050 is USD 60,833 at a rate of 15.42 per dollar. That is USD 6,083 per month.

The Badminton Association has been accused of mismanaging the scholarship funds of player Nibal Ahmed to pay the salary of the coach.

According to the expenses sheet provided by the association to Nibal, the coach was paid USD 8,176 from January 2023 to March this year which is USD 584 per month. That is until Nibal joined Revival Sports Club.

In an interview with Adhadhu Sports, Nibal said the national coach did not go to any tournaments with him and no personal training was conducted for him.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating a case involving the senior officials of the Badminton Association, which won the Best Sports Association award at the Maldives Sports Awards last year.

ACC had also raided premises connected to the former president of the Badminton Association Moosa Naashid.
