Health Minister Abdullah Khaleel has purchased a flat in Hulhumale' for MVR 3 million.

Khaleel bought a 1,200 square feet flat in the FW Residences developed in Hulhumale'. He paid MVR 3,167,687 to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to purchase the flat.

HDC registered a case at the Civil Court to transfer the ownership of the flat to Khaleel on December 25, 2023, about a month after his appointment as the Health Minister. The flat was registered under his name on August 7.

While Khaleel purchased a flat worth MVR 3 million just a month after taking over as minister, the monthly remuneration including salary and allowances for the post is MVR 58,500.

Khaleel could not be reached for comment as he did not answer the phone.

During the previous government of the People's National Congress (PNC) coalition from 2013 to 2018, Khaleel was the MP for Nilandhoo in the 18th People's Majlis.

Adhadhu earlier reported how funds provided by the Kuwait Fund to Khaleel's Foundation (AK Foundation) to build a two-storey building in Nilandhoo school were transferred to his personal account. The complaint was lodged at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as well.

Information gathered by Adhadhu shows that USD 89,000 (MVR 1.3 million) out of the USD 200,000 issued by the Kuwait Fund was deposited in Khaleel's account. However, the former MP for Nilandhoo denies any wrongdoing.

Khaleel told Adhadhu that the reason for depositing funds to his personal account was the conversion of dollars. The statement obtained by Adhadhu does not show that money was deposited to the account after conversion from dollars.

Whilst the Health Minister has purchased a flat in Hulhumale', the ACC recently requested the Prosecutor General's Office (PG) to file criminal charges against former State Minister at the Gender Ministry Fathimath Zifleena in connection with the purchase of a flat in Hulhumale'.
