President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his family are spending the Eid holidays in Velaa Private Island resort, Adhadhu has learnt.
The President's Office was unavailable for comment on the President's vacation. However, two sources confirmed to Adhadhu that the President was on vacation at the Velaa resort.
Adhadhu understands that the President was accompanied by his wife Sajidha Mohamed, two sons and daughter.
Velaa resort is a world-class luxury resort. The resort, operated by a Czech group, is marketed as a private island.
There are nine categories of rooms in the resort. These include two private four-bed residences that can accommodate up to 10 people. They are the two most expensive options in the resort.
The resort also has a beach pool house for five people, an ocean pool house and a romantic residence for three people.
This is President Muizzu's third official leave since taking office on November 17, 2023. He had previously visited Singapore on March 21, 2024, and April 30, 2024.
It is unclear whether a sitting Maldivian President had previously spent a vacation in a resort island. However, several former Presidents have stayed in resorts for other purposes.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih spent most of his vacations in Singapore and Sri Lanka. Some of his family members live in Singapore. He also visited the UAE on holiday.
Details of former President Abdullah Yameen's vacations were not disclosed, but it is known that he spent most of his leaves at the Presidential Retreat in Aarah island. However, he also travelled to overseas destinations including Singapore.
Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik spent a vacation in New York after completing official business in the United States. He also went on a vacation trip to Malaysia.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed took very few leaves. He spent a holiday in Vaikaramuraidhoo owned by his former father-in-law. It is not known whether Nasheed went abroad on vacation.
