Chinese President Xi Jinping sent birthday greetings in a special letter to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as he turned 46 on Saturday.
Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin paid a courtesy call on the President at the presidential palace on Saturday afternoon. During the visit, the Ambassador delivered President Xi’s special congratulatory letter to the President.
In the letter, President Xi expressed sincere greetings and best wishes to President Muizzu, the President’s Office said.
“He also emphasised the importance of China-Maldives relations and reiterated his enthusiasm for strengthening the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and jointly building a China-Maldives community with a shared future,” the President’s Office said.
The President expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for personally delivering the letter. The President had also written a congratulatory message to him as President Xi Jinping was also born on June 15.
During discussions with the Ambassador, the President spoke about improving bilateral relations in the future and about existing and future agreements signed between the countries.
Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin assured assistance for the Maldives' economic development and inquired from the President about areas where the Maldivian government requires additional assistance, according to the President’s Office.
President Muizzu was born in the capital Male’ on June 15, 1978. President Xi was born in China’s capital Beijing 25 years before that on June 15, 1953.
