A senior leader of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) arrived in the Maldives on an official visit yesterday.

The official from the CPPCCC was Vice Chairman Bater. The conference has 23 vice chairpersons. He was greeted at the Velana International Airport by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim.

Bater arrived on an official visit, the Parliament Secretariat said in a social media post, without providing any further details.

In addition to Nazim, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin also welcomed Bater in Hulhule'.

CPPCC is the foremost body that offers political consultation to the Chinese government. The conference's members include politicians as well as experts. CPPCC offers expert opinions to the government on formulating various national policies.
