The government of Sri Lanka has assured that Maldivian visitors will be able to get 90-day on-arrival visas without any inconveniences.

The Sri Lankan government gave the assurance during Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer's official visit to Sri Lanka from June 3 to 6.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Sri Lankan government gave the assurance in writing.

During the visit, Zameer met with Sri Lankan Public Security Minister Tiran Alles to discuss ways to solve the difficulties faced by Maldives living in Sri Lanka.

He also requested a solution to the difficulties encountered due to the recent changes in the issuance of on-arrival visas.

“Following those concerns, Minister Alles has confirmed in writing that Maldivian nationals will be granted 90-day on-arrival visas without further hassle, in accordance with the Visa Facilitation Agreement signed between the two countries,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Sri Lanka has also assured that an appropriate solution will be found to the issue of annual visa fee paid by Maldivian students studying in Sri Lanka.

Zameer visited Sri Lanka at the invitation of Foreign Minister Ali Sabri. He has now concluded the visit and returned to Male.
