Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has met with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Washington today.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the discussions were focused on the deepening relations between Maldives and the United States.

The two leaders also discussed matters in the area of defence and security cooperation, promoting and strengthening democracy, commitment to economic growth and adapting to climate change.

They further discussed international and regional peace and maritime security.

Blinken congratulated on the successful presidential and parliamentary elections in Maldives and praised the country's efforts to address climate change.

During the meeting, Zameer acknowledged the importance of the educational opportunities offered by the US.

He noted that easier visa facilitation services for Maldivians would promote people-to-people contact paving the way to promote cultural exchange, tourism, and business ties between the two countries.

Zameer is scheduled to meet with senior US officials during the visit. He is also scheduled to meet with Maldivians living in New York.
