A nine-feet crocodile was found near the Kandima resort in Dhaalu atoll yesterday.

The discovery of the crocodile from the resort island's windward side was reported at 4:08 pm on Wednesday. The military was alerted by the Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo police station.

After the report, soldiers on a harbor craft of the Coast Guard's Second Squadron went to the island and caught the reptile, according to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

The crocodile remains under the MNDF's care.

Saltwater crocodiles are not native to the Maldives. But crocodiles that strayed and drifted from other countries have been found in the Maldives on various occasions in the past.
