Japan donates aid worth 800 million yen to MNDF Coast Guard

The Japanese government yesterday donated modern equipment valued at 800 million yen to the MNDF Coast Guard to support maritime search and rescue operations.

Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Takeuchi Midori, officially handed over the equipment at a ceremony held at MNDF Headquarters. Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon received the equipment on behalf of the MNDF.

Speaking at the event, Minister Ghassan stated that the MNDF Coast Guard aims to double its fleet, operational capacity, and services in the coming days.

He noted that the equipment provided by the Japanese government will significantly strengthen the MNDF Coast Guard’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to maritime emergencies.

Ghassan also expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its continued assistance and the valuable contribution to the MNDF.
