Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP for Raa Inguraidhoo Hassan (Hassantey) Ahmed has signed for the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).

Hassantey said in a post on X on Saturday that he has decided to go forward with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

"I have decided from today onward to go forward President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. I will stay in PNC truthfully and sincerely," Hassantey said in his announcement.

Adhadhu has confirmed that he will not be seeking re-election for the Inguraidhoo constituency in this year's parliamentary elections.

Hassan was active in the MDP's early reform efforts. This is the first time that he joined another party.

Hassantey signed for the MDP as the 154th member, according to the MP. He was formerly the President of the MDP's Inguraidhoo branch and a member of the party's campaign committee.
