Maldives Customs Service has seized over three kilograms of narcotics that were attempted to be smuggled into the country via postal and courier services.
The seizure occurred during the inspection of incoming parcels. Authorities discovered a total of 3.15 kilograms of the same substance across two separate packages.
According to Customs, the substance seized in both instances was identified as Synthetic Cathinone. This is a potent drug commonly known in the Maldives as "Meow Meow."
The first package was intercepted on October 29 during a routine inspection of postal mail. Upon further examination of the suspicious parcel, officers discovered 2.12 kilograms of Synthetic Cathinone concealed inside.
The second package was discovered two days later, on October 31, in a shipment brought through a courier service. A search of the suspicious parcel led to the seizure of an additional 1.03 kilograms of Synthetic Cathinone.
Just five days prior to these seizures, Customs had intercepted 6.7 kilograms of the same substance in an air freight shipment. This brings the total amount of this specific drug seized by Customs to approximately 10 kilograms within a single week.
Police have not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made in connection with these cases.
