Police have seized several toy guns used by a group of individuals for a video production in Hulhumale’.

In a statement, the police clarified that they investigated the matter after a video surfaced showing individuals in possession of firearms to determine whether the firearms were authentic. Following an inspection, the police confirmed that the items were not real weapons.

"Further investigation confirmed that the guns seen in the video are toys. The individuals involved said that they were being used for the purpose of filming a video," the police said.

The reason for the seizure remains unclear, as the possession of toy guns is not prohibited in the Maldives. However, the police noted that they are "conducting further inquiries" into the matter after taking the items into custody.

"These items have now been taken into police custody. We are currently looking into further details regarding this incident," the statement added.
