Two men have been arrested and remanded in custody pending trial for allegedly breaking into an apartment in the Galolhu district of Malé, where they held the occupants at knifepoint and robbed them of a large amount of cash.

Police identified the suspects as Thalaal Mohamed, 41, and Ahmed Ubaid, 46. Both individuals were ordered by the Criminal Court to remain in custody until the conclusion of their trial.

A third individual, Zahir Ali Didi, 41, who is a relative of the family residing in the apartment, has also been arrested in connection with the case. He has been remanded in custody for 15 days.

According to the police, there is evidence suggesting Ali Didi’s involvement, noting that he was seen with the perpetrators prior to the robbery.

"The investigating officer noted that the suspect [Ali Didi] accompanied the perpetrators to the house and did not return home until his arrest. He was apprehended while in the company of one of the suspects during a police operation to capture those directly involved in the crime," the court order stated.

In his defense, Ali Didi denied the allegations, claiming he met the perpetrators through an online game. He alleged that they had restrained him to prevent him from leaving before taking his keys to carry out the robbery.

The police confirmed that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
