Man arrested for threatening to rape and kill elderly woman

A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to sexually assault and kill a 72-year-old Maldivian woman.

Police confirmed that a 44-year-old male was taken into custody under a court order in connection with the case. The suspect entered the victim's home to deliver the threats.

According to the police, the 72-year-old victim was treated at the Angolhitheemu Health Center and has since been discharged. The reason for her hospitalization was not disclosed.

"A report was filed at approximately 8:30 pm on September 27, 2026, regarding an individual who entered a residence in Raa Angolhitheemu, threatened a 72-year-old Maldivian woman with sexual assault, and issued death threats. The victim has been discharged after receiving medical attention at the Angolhitheemu Health Center," the police stated.

The incident occurred while a large number of Angolhitheemu residents were away in Raa Rasmadhoo to attend a Veterans Cup football match.
