The Housing Ministry has announced that the Addu Link Road reconstruction project has been awarded to China’s Rotime Engineering and Technology Co. Ltd for MVR 446.1 million.
The Ministry informed Adhadhu that the project was contracted to Rotime Engineering and Technology for MVR 446.1 million, with a completion mandate of one year. Under the agreement, the project must be finalised by September 24 next year.
As this is a contractor-financed project, the Ministry stated that the total cost of the works will be repaid to the Chinese firm over a period of three years.
Last week, Housing Minister Abdulla Muththalib stated that physical work on the Addu Link Road project is expected to commence by the end of October at the latest.
The reconstruction of the Addu Link Road and several other streets was first awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) on April 8, 2025, for MVR 829.7 million, with a completion timeline of 1,440 days. However, RDC will now focus on the development of the other designated roads instead of the Link Road.
The original scope of the project included laying asphalt on 67.58 kilometres of Cement Treated Base (CTB) roads along the Link Road, establishing a drainage system in Feydhoo, and installing road markings and signage.
While RDC continues to carry out certain road development works, the government decided earlier this month to dissolve the corporation. The government plans to merge RDC with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
