State Minister at the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Dr. Abdulla Fairoosh, resigned from his post today.
In a post on X, Fairoosh stated that he decided to step down after careful consideration, noting that he believes this is the right time to transition away from public service.
He initially served as a State Minister at the Ministry of Higher Education under the current administration. He was later appointed as a State Minister at the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology in October 2024.
Fairoosh retired from the Maldives Police Service in January 2021, after 20 years of service.
His retirement in January 2021 was an honorable discharge granted at his own request upon completing two decades of service.
However, at the time of his retirement, the Parliament concluded that the Home Ministry had failed to consider several serious allegations against him.
This resolution was passed following a motion submitted by the then-Speaker of Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed, immediately after Fairoosh’s retirement.
