A man has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling more than one kilogram of narcotics into the Maldives.
The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Fauzan Ahmed Hussain, of Sandyside, Vaavu Keyodhoo. He was apprehended in Keyodhoo and has been remanded in custody pending the conclusion of his trial.
According to the police, the arrest followed an operation launched based on intelligence provided by Maldives Customs Service. Authorities have not yet disclosed the type of drug seized or whether the contraband was smuggled via sea or air.
The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Drug Enforcement Department, Counter-Narcotics Intelligence, Vaavu Atoll Police, and the Maldives Customs Service.
