Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is likely to collapse or that the President may be compelled to resign in the coming days.

Speaking on a program aired by Sangu TV, Nasheed outlined several reasons why he believes the Muizzu administration could fall or lead to a resignation. He highlighted the President’s betrayal of close allies and a lack of consultation.

Nasheed asserted that Muizzu makes all decisions unilaterally, failing to consult with his cabinet or members of his own party. He argued that this isolation has left the President unaware of the current state of affairs and the necessary course of action.

"President Dr. Muizzu does not consult with his ministers or those within the party. I live here too, so if something is happening, I would know. He does not consult with party members, nor does he seek advice from the party’s veteran political leaders," Nasheed said.

"He doesn't consult anyone. He is unaware of how things are unfolding and is at a loss as to what steps should be taken next."

Nasheed further elaborated that another reason for a potential collapse or resignation is the President’s increasing isolation due to acts of "betrayal."

"Dr. Muizzu is seen as a very disloyal individual. His disloyalty is particularly evident in how he treated former President Abdulla Yameen, and more recently, his conduct toward Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon. Betrayal is not something Maldivians accept. The President now stands very much alone," he said.

Nasheed noted that Muizzu should not be concerned about political rivals attempting an unlawful coup.

"In my view, Dr. Muizzu should not be worried about us trying to overthrow the government illegally. We have no intention of toppling the government outside the law. However, it is highly probable that he will fall on his own," Nasheed remarked.

Nasheed reiterated that in the "coming days," it is likely that Muizzu will either be removed through Parliament or choose to resign.

"There are a few legal avenues for this to occur. One is through the Parliament. The other is for the President to realize the situation and step down of his own accord. I believe it is quite possible that one of these two outcomes will manifest in the near future."
