People's Majlis introduces e-petition system

An electronic system has been introduced to submit petitions to the parliament without the involvement of MPs.

According to the People's Majlis, the system will allow the public to submit petitions and view the progress of the petitions. The authenticity of the signatories will be verified through eFaas, the national digital identity system.

The e-petition portal was designed by the People's Majlis and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Maldives with the assistance of the UK and Australian governments.

The e-petition process is based on a policy paper developed by UNDP and the People's Majlis in 2023, following consultations with women, youth and civil society.
