Paediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal has issued a warning over the spread of Influenza and Dengue.
In a post on social media X, Faisal wrote that Influenza was going around in Male', while Dengue was rapidly spreading in Maafushi and Himmafushi islands.
“Some children have severe body pain and cannot walk,” he said.
Faisal urged people to get vaccinated to protect themselves from Influenza. Children, the elderly, and pregnant women are most at risk.
Influenza symptoms include: fever, headache, body and muscle aches, sore throat, cough, runny nose, cramps and fatigue.
An infected person may experience difficulty breathing, severe body pain or pain in the legs, difficulty walking, severe cough, dry throat, and chest pain.
This is a contagious disease.
The first symptom of Dengue caused by the Aedes mosquito is a fever. This is one of the reasons why many people ignore dengue. But it is important to see a doctor if the fever is accompanied by other symptoms like fatigue and body pain.
